The star has given the entirety of his £25,000 Mercury Prize cash to the MVT, which works to preserve the Britain's independent concert spaces.

The star was given the prize on mid-October as his new release People Watching was named the top album of the last 12 months.

Fender has chosen to give the cash to the Music Venues Trust, in recognition of the vital role local spots played in his beginning days.

"As an artist couldn't be pursuing this success if it weren't for all the performances I performed around the area, and beyond, when I was beginning," remarked Fender. "These venues are renowned, but they are facing challenges."

Since the start of 2023, over 150 of these locations have shut down – roughly one-sixth of the whole industry in the UK.

In the last year, well-known musicians such as Pulp, the group Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all supported the Music Venues Trust in its initiatives to keep the scene afloat, by applying a minor surcharge to their admission fees, which benefits smaller concert halls.

Fender also joined in, collecting more than £100,000 on his recent tour to assist 38 grassroots venues across England, Scotland, and Wales.

These funds assisted spaces that were confronting potential shutdown due to challenges caused by water damage, blazes and bereavements, as well as regulatory hurdles, court cases and neighbor objections.

Other venues received monetary aid in modernizing amenities and technical equipment that helped artists and audiences.

"The concept that money from shows in big venues helps the smaller venues, where it kicks off for performers like me, is just common sense," the star has stated.

"And I donated a thousand pounds to the center, to their gymnastics program, because I trained in gymnastics when I was a child and they needed new equipment," the artist told a publication.

Previously, they gave their funds to the community center that supported their group, in addition to other grassroots music organisations.

Also the 1994 recipients they gave their winnings to a multiple sclerosis charity after a close contact was identified with the disease.

"Winning was sufficient," said artist Small. "The cash was the cherry on top but we didn't need the extra, because we had the cake. So our success touched the lives of others."

Recently, the trust announced it had protected several local spots in the South East, by placing them under public stewardship.

One venue in that area and The Croft in the city were purchased under the public acquisition scheme, which is funded by the arts council and music fans who purchase "shares" in the buildings.
