Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been won on hardcourt

A comeback Medvedev secured his initial trophy for nearly 30 months with a win over Corentin Moutet in the tournament title decider.

Medvedev, a former world number one, has experienced a difficult period, achieving just one win at the major tournaments and suffering a difficult moment at the American major.

His unpredictability on the tennis tour - and issues with his serve in particular - caused him falling of the elite rankings and finally splitting with long-term trainer Cervara.

Currently working with his coach and his other coach, Medvedev has gradually advanced in the past month - culminating in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over Frenchman Moutet.

This represents his maiden championship since the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hard court after March of the previous year.

The win also means the Russian has secured twenty-one victories at 21 different tournaments.

"For the first time I'm at a tournament with my two daughters simultaneously, so to win a trophy is particularly special," commented ranked player Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in honour of my younger daughter her name, because the maiden victory I got when my child her name was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had failed in his past six championship matches, including in the German tournament previously this season.

The player's counter-punching strategy and regular reactions on the tennis court had prompted observers to wonder if his ability to compete at the elite level was over.

Yet the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the last few weeks, attempting to advance forward and perform assertively, supported by an enhanced serving game.

Medvedev recovered from a disadvantage in the opening set against the tricky opponent, winning 4 of the final five exchanges to gain the advantage.

The pair traded service breaks in the middle set before Moutet, bidding for his maiden ATP Tour title, gained dominance to push for a third set.

The opponent rescued four early-game break points in a competitive third set before Medvedev broke to that score to close out the victory.

Suitably, Medvedev earned the win with a rally at the net area, with Moutet failing to handle a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
