Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Fighters Party

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a wide array of personalities, and a gripping narrative featuring angels, evil spirits, and sinister influences increasing in influence within the city.

Heads-up: Key plot points for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 lie ahead.

The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced

Episode 3 concluded with a major cliffhanger and introduced the premier party of adventurers who will separate from the central cast to begin their own adventure, separate from the other two tables.

This warrior group includes the determined fighter (played by Travis), the agile character (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (Whitney), the cleric (the player), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).

Why Split the Party?

With an extensive roster, it was evident from the outset that keeping everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.

That’s why, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, connecting the individual narratives before branching into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Strategists, and Questers.

What Defines the Warrior Group

As described by the DM, the warrior group is for players who prefer a traditionally charged battle-oriented story mode where peaceful solutions are few and far between.

Initially, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander might appear out of place, but the developments of the latest installment demonstrate why these specific adventurers are best suited for the warrior group.

Reasons to Leave

First, the team knows exactly where to proceed after a violent opening clash with the enemy group.

A former ally of Thjazi—whose death started the story’s plot—exploited The Crow Keepers for his own means, entering the secret base, attacking Thimble, and taking all the magical artifacts to sell off.

The antagonist then cleared his liabilities and escaped to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, north of the urban center, with Cyd close behind.

Character Drivers

Moreover, each character has a specific drive to exit the urban setting:

  • Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, seeks vengeance.
  • The knowledgeable figure has experience in the northern area and cautions that it is a nasty place.
  • The strong character and The healer, having resisted his house’s orders to execute the fighter and instead saved him, have no other options.
  • But, their reputation as key figures in the powerful family could enable the party enter locations they usually can’t.
  • Furthermore, The grateful character pledged a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his deliverance and will now follow him everywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Finally, all of them are hunted by the authorities that control the city for a multiple motives, making staying in the city too risky:

  • The rogue and The character are notorious outlaws.
  • The strong figure and The healer defied House Halovar and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
  • The fighter is targeted for elimination by the clan.

This leaves them little choice but to journey toward Timmony in search of the traitor.

Future Episodes

From the latest episode’s Cooldown, we learn that the Soldiers table will be absent the following episode, leaving the other eight participants to form the Seekers and Schemers tables.

Audiences can anticipate learning which adventurers will be where in the season’s last Overture episode, released on October 24.
